The Road to Gold: MGGS Adventurers Take on the Brecon Beacons

At MGGS, we believe that academic excellence is only part of the journey. Our mission of Shaping Scholars, Developing Leaders, and Securing Futures is often best evidenced beyond the classroom, where our students take on some of the UK’s most demanding challenges.

From Thursday, 30th April to Sunday, 3rd May, a dedicated group of our Year 12 students will be heading to the Brecon Beacons for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expedition. Navigating the rugged terrain between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon, these students will be testing their resilience, leadership, and teamwork to the limit in one of the country’s most challenging environments.

We are incredibly proud to support our students as they embark on this prestigious journey

The Gold Award is the pinnacle of the DofE programme and is highly regarded by top universities and global employers as a mark of exceptional character. By providing these elite opportunities, MGGS ensures that our students don’t just leave with outstanding grades, but with the confidence and life experiences that make them truly stand out.

Whether joining us in Year 7 or entering our Sixth Form, MGGS provides the platform for high achievers to flourish in every arena – from our outstanding modern learning spaces to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons.

We wish our Gold explorers a safe and successful expedition and look forward to hearing about their achievements upon their return.
