Year 8 Aachen Trip: A German Christmas Adventure!
We took our Year 8 Germanists on a visit to the Christmas markets of Aachen, along with Marksburg Castle, and Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Students were given time to practise their German by speaking with the stall owners, and were shown around historic Aachen and its cathedral by Frau Lampers and colleagues. Here’s what the students had to say…
“It has been a life-changing experience, which I will never forget. It was an event which made me socialise more than I ever have, it made me step outside my comfort zone and do something new. I tried new foods that I would never have imagined trying.”
“I found the German trip an exciting adventure. We started off on the first day here by going to the wonderful Christmas market, where there were plenty of tasty stalls and creative products. I remember that me and my friends all shared a mega bratwurst. The next day, we set off to go to the magical fairytale Marksburg Castle that features the plants from the Harry Potter movies. Then we made our way to the city of Koblenz, where we walked alongside the beautiful river and riverline cruises. And saw a giant landmark which we climbed up happily.”
“I felt relieved to be home, but I also felt sad, because I had to leave such an amazing place, and it was my first impression of Germany, which I thought was really beautiful!”
“I had the opportunity to speak lots of German and try the best gingerbread I have ever tasted! This has definitely been the best experience so far in my time at MGGS.”
