Weave Got Talent! Talent! #Year7 My MGGS

Leila E in Year 7 has been working hard in her woolly enrichment sessions, learning the traditional craft of weaving. This wonderful sample was turned into a wall hanging, but the possibilities of weave are endless! Some students turned their weave into 'mug rugs', and others made doll house blankets!

If you are a student at MGGS, you can learn more about wool and yarn in our knit, crochet and stitch club, which will be run in term 6 by the DT department. Secure your space now!

A-Level Maths in Action: Go Ape and the Foundations of Engineering - "It was fun to see the applications of Maths in real life." My MGGS

This week, Year 12 mathematicians headed to Bedgebury National Pinetum to take part in the Go Ape course.

As students whizzed through the air, they were able to experience the forces we have been discussing in our Mechanics lessons. Students had a chance to understand why our modelling assumptions are important when we look at real life situations. In their upcoming lessons, they will now be challenged with some questions about their experiences which will challenge them to think about the complexity of the forces they were experiencing and how we could use modelling assumptions to make approximations surrounding their velocities and acceleration.

Here is what Zara and Flora thought about the trip: “We had a great time! We enjoyed the Tarzan swing and zip wires especially, and it was fun to see the applications of Maths in real life such as the varying tensions in the wires. It was really nice to spend time with our classmates outside of lessons. Plus, there were cute baby geese.”

Year 9 Textiles Creations @MyMGGS

As we bid farewell to a majority of our Year 9 cohort, as they commence their GCSE options next term, we get to celebrate the completion of their final pieces. They have learned the technicalities of darting, pintucking and pleating - as well as the artistic process of adding folds, shapes and colour. A highly successful end to KS3 textiles.

Well done everyone!

Year 8 Headpiece Virtual Parade 2026! My MGGS

Year 8s have been looking at the Art and Design movements of the 20th Century this year, and were given an extended homework to create a headpiece based on a specific movement, depending on their tutor group.

We have blown us away with their creativity and innovation, and shown an excellent understanding of the movements. Take a look at their wonderful creations.

Please see the parade entries here 👉 www.mggs.org/wp-content/uploads/Easter-Headpiece-virtual-parade-2026.pdf

Double Success! Aditi and Siobi Head to Public Speaking Finals! My MGGS

On Monday, Aditi and Siobi represented MGGS at a regional heat of the Symposium Public Speaking Competition. They were among 18 other Year 9 students from Kent Grammar Schools. The range of topics was broad and the quality high! Aditi's speech on representation in film and Siobi's speech on the reception of asylum seekers in the UK were thought-provoking, exceptionally crafted and delivered confidently. After lengthy deliberations by the judges, BOTH Siobi and Aditi were among the 5 students who progressed to the finals in June. Many congratulations and best of luck!

Saying Goodbye to Year 13 in our Leavers Assembly…

Last week, we said a temporary goodbye to Year 13 as they celebrated their final day in school before the exam season continues.

Students spent the day together enjoying garden games, ice cream and one final Sixth Form Karaoke session, wearing their old school uniforms - a nice reminder of how far they have come since joining the school.

The goodbyes culminated with a special Leavers’ Assembly, which reflected on everything they have achieved during their time in the Sixth Form and the exciting next steps ahead of them.

We would like to wish all of Year 13 the very best for the rest of their examinations. We have already been incredibly impressed by the mature and focused way they have approached the start of the exam season this week, and we are very proud of them.

Don’t miss all the pictures of their journey to Year 13! 👉https://www.mggs.org/wp-content/uploads/MGGS-Leavers-Assembly-2026.pdf

A Century of Wonder: Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th Birthday

On Friday, the Geography Department held a celebration event to mark the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. A huge thank you to Ahtizde Sivakunalan who baked delicious cookies topped with David Attenborough cake toppers and the Geography subject leaders who prepared cakes and sweet treats to hand out during lunchtime. We had a ‘Guess the teacher’ impression of Sir David as well as several fascinating quizzes and information posters about his life and contribution to broadcasting and natural history, all whilst displaying his Planet Earth series to view. Thank you to all who came to celebrate, it was a wonderful event!

From First Steps in 2026 to Secured Futures in 2033: Welcome to #MGGS! ✨

There is nothing quite like the excitement of finding out you’ve secured a place at your school of choice. We’ve already seen some wonderful reactions from our new cohort, including the pure joy on their faces upon hearing the news! It is that sense of belonging that we strive to build from the very first moment.

We know that moving to secondary school is a huge milestone, which is why we take our transition process so seriously. Our goal is to make sure every new student feels supported and ready to thrive from day one as they begin their journey: Shaping Scholars ~ Developing Leaders ~ Securing Futures.

It was a real highlight this week to welcome our new students for their first transition step. It was fantastic to see them meeting senior staff and getting a "sneak peek" at the brand-new facilities in The Helen Keen Building - our new home for History, Music, and Science, along with our unique WWII Visitor Centre.

The journey continues in June when we'll be heading out for primary school visits, followed by our big Team Building event. This is always a great afternoon on our sports field, providing a relaxed space for students to make new friends and for parents to start connecting, too.

We are already looking forward to the main Transition Day in July, where our Sixth Formers and Year 7 Form Tutors will be on hand to show the girls exactly what life at MGGS is all about.

We can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition Success #MGGS

Last weekend, we had 16 Teams of Year 9 students complete their Bronze Training and Practice expedition. On Saturday, students were taught to pitch tents, learnt how to use a Trangia stove and went out on a training walk, practising their navigation. It was a beautiful evening with teams cooking a range of dinners using the stoves. There was a variety of different games across the evening, and students had the opportunity to talk to a local sheep farmer and to see his sheepdog at work. It was a very blustery start to Sunday morning, but our students got themselves up and out, with all students having started their walk by 08:30! It was a challenge for our teams as they had to navigate their route with a few tricky spots. The teams coped well with the addition of the cold and wind and made it back to camp.

Congratulations, and good luck with the qualifying expedition in July.

As always, thank you to Scott and his team at #Adtrex for all their hard work with the expeditions.
