Saying Goodbye to Year 13 in our Leavers Assembly…
Last week, we said a temporary goodbye to Year 13 as they celebrated their final day in school before the exam season continues.
Students spent the day together enjoying garden games, ice cream and one final Sixth Form Karaoke session, wearing their old school uniforms - a nice reminder of how far they have come since joining the school.
The goodbyes culminated with a special Leavers’ Assembly, which reflected on everything they have achieved during their time in the Sixth Form and the exciting next steps ahead of them.
We would like to wish all of Year 13 the very best for the rest of their examinations. We have already been incredibly impressed by the mature and focused way they have approached the start of the exam season this week, and we are very proud of them.

A Century of Wonder: Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th Birthday
On Friday, the Geography Department held a celebration event to mark the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. A huge thank you to Ahtizde Sivakunalan who baked delicious cookies topped with David Attenborough cake toppers and the Geography subject leaders who prepared cakes and sweet treats to hand out during lunchtime. We had a ‘Guess the teacher’ impression of Sir David as well as several fascinating quizzes and information posters about his life and contribution to broadcasting and natural history, all whilst displaying his Planet Earth series to view. Thank you to all who came to celebrate, it was a wonderful event!
From First Steps in 2026 to Secured Futures in 2033: Welcome to #MGGS! ✨
There is nothing quite like the excitement of finding out you’ve secured a place at your school of choice. We’ve already seen some wonderful reactions from our new cohort, including the pure joy on their faces upon hearing the news! It is that sense of belonging that we strive to build from the very first moment.
We know that moving to secondary school is a huge milestone, which is why we take our transition process so seriously. Our goal is to make sure every new student feels supported and ready to thrive from day one as they begin their journey: Shaping Scholars ~ Developing Leaders ~ Securing Futures.
It was a real highlight this week to welcome our new students for their first transition step. It was fantastic to see them meeting senior staff and getting a "sneak peek" at the brand-new facilities in The Helen Keen Building - our new home for History, Music, and Science, along with our unique WWII Visitor Centre.
The journey continues in June when we'll be heading out for primary school visits, followed by our big Team Building event. This is always a great afternoon on our sports field, providing a relaxed space for students to make new friends and for parents to start connecting, too.
We are already looking forward to the main Transition Day in July, where our Sixth Formers and Year 7 Form Tutors will be on hand to show the girls exactly what life at MGGS is all about.
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Expedition Success #MGGS
Last weekend, we had 16 Teams of Year 9 students complete their Bronze Training and Practice expedition. On Saturday, students were taught to pitch tents, learnt how to use a Trangia stove and went out on a training walk, practising their navigation. It was a beautiful evening with teams cooking a range of dinners using the stoves. There was a variety of different games across the evening, and students had the opportunity to talk to a local sheep farmer and to see his sheepdog at work. It was a very blustery start to Sunday morning, but our students got themselves up and out, with all students having started their walk by 08:30! It was a challenge for our teams as they had to navigate their route with a few tricky spots. The teams coped well with the addition of the cold and wind and made it back to camp.
Congratulations, and good luck with the qualifying expedition in July.
As always, thank you to Scott and his team at #Adtrex for all their hard work with the expeditions.
The sessions are designed to support students in their preparations for the 11+.
Booking a place is quick and easy! Simply visit our online booking page to secure your spot at any of the events. Don’t wait too long - spaces fill up fast due to the popularity of these events.
Feel free to share this information with friends, as they are welcome to experience MGGS!
Last week, we held our official House Leader handover assembly as we thanked the House Leaders of 2025–26 for all of their hard work and contributions over the past year (pictured). They have played a huge role in school life, leading events, building house spirit and helping to make this year’s House Arts - focused on dance - such a memorable success.
We now look forward to the next chapter as the mantle passes to our new House Leaders, who will soon be busy preparing for upcoming events, including Sports Day and the return of Penny Wars - so start saving your coins!
On Friday 8th of May, #year12#Politics A-level students, members of MGGS Student Council and MGGS Diversity Ambassadors attended the Palace of Westminster and the UK Supreme Court with Mr Wilkins and Mr Belver. After an early train journey up to Victoria Station, students marched onward to the Houses of Parliament. Here, they were greeted by their own group of tour guides who, after extensive security checks, gave in-depth, historically rich tours of the Houses of Parliament. This involved pointing out the key significance of various historical features scattered throughout Parliament, including paintings, statues and insignia. One such example being Queen Victoria's initials displayed within the hypnotising ceiling design in the Central Lobby. This peculiar detail possesses its origins in the current Palace of Westminster’s reconstruction during Queen Victoria’s reign after it burnt down in 1834. Students got to explore the House of Commons, where students were stunned to discover that they could not legally sit down due to them not being elected into the House! After a democracy fuelled lunch in Parliament Square, students made their way to the Supreme Court. Here, students got to visit both courtrooms and even sit in the Judges’ chairs! Additionally, in the basement of the Court building, there is a museum on the history of the Supreme Court, displaying impressive nuance to the creation of the court.
I spoke to some Students to get their opinion on the day:
“What a great day for democracy!” ~ Mr Belver, Teacher of MFL “I thought it was really interesting to see the Commonwealth section of the Supreme Court.” - Anonymous Year 12. By Dylan J 12R
Six pairs of students from Years 10 and 12 represented MGGS in the 5th Annual ACS Cobham Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament in London on Thursday, competing against teams from international schools from across the South East region.
They came up against strong opposition who really tested their skills, as did the weather, playing in sunshine, rain and hail! All pairs really stepped up their game and performed so well, with Daisy G & Omono O taking a Bronze medal with Aashna T & Naomi N and Zara A & Mary A also reaching the knockout stages.
We are looking forward to even more beach volleyball in Term 6!
Good luck to everyone in #Year10 heading out for the Silver #DofE in the #Kent Downs this weekend!
You’ve already conquered Bronze, so you know the drill - but Silver is where the challenge truly ramps up. Whether you’re navigating through unexpected bogs, wrestling with a tent in a stiff breeze, or discovering that three days of dehydrated rations is quite a commitment, you’ve got the grit to see it through.
A huge thank you and a BIG shout-out to Miss Brown, our DofE Unit Leader! This is her third weekend in a row out on expeditions. We are incredibly lucky to have someone so dedicated (and clearly fueled by industrial-strength coffee) making sure these trips happen! ... See MoreSee Less
